Burger Burger, Canada

To show our dedication to the cause, Nerd Club Reviews goes international; to a place where -2degrees celsius is warm and the clubs close at 2am.

Burger Burger, located in downtown London, Ontario, does what its title suggests; makes burgers. Right next to one of London’s most popular clubs; the Barking Frog, Burger Burger remains open til late and makes for a solid option when hunger hits after a night out.

Before we get stuck into it, it must be noted that this was ordered through a delivery service here called JustEats.

Burger

I had the Richmond: double cheese burger with bacon and caramelized onions and a choice of standard toppings; lettuce, tomato, pickles, fancy sauce. Don’t allow the poor photography and uncleanliness in the background damage the burger’s reputation.

Straight off the bat, the burger was big. Two large patties nestled between two small buns ensured that things would get real messy. The bun itself, although too small, deserves its props. It was light, soft and toasted perfectly. The sauce was tasty, although not prominent throughout the burger and I was pleased with the pickle count  which added that extra kick that cuts through the grind of meat.

The burger however falls victim to having ‘too much going on’. As we’ve seen in the past with bacon, it doesn’t always make a positive impact on a burger. Apart from some crunch it didn’t contribute much, instead just adding more meat to an already meaty burger. A lack of sauce, and a strong cheesy taste also brought this burger down.

Overall, a lot of cheese, a lot of meat and just a difficult burger to eat.

Sides

The fries were unseasoned and were just a carb-loaded addition to the meal. Meanwhile the mountain dew tasted funny (soft drinks taste different here compared to Australia) and its 170mg of caffeine kept me up til 4am…

Burger Burger was a ‘desperate times call for desperate measures’ where we were feeling too lazy to leave the house and wanted something delivered. Overall, the meal was disappointing for what’s been haled as a London, ON staple. Questionable as to whether I’ll give it another chance – will have to scope out the competition first.
