BlackBear BBQ, Wetherill Park

We’re back! After an unintended hiatus, feedsforthree is back with a food review. A lot has changed since we last posted, in our own lives and the world around us, but our appreciation for good, honest food has not. Hopefully you kept up with us on Instagram (@feedsforthree) as we’ve been posting content on there this whole time.

Our first foray post-iso was to Black Bear BBQ. They have three locations, Wetherill Park (we visited this one), Blacktown and Windsor. Tucked away in a business park, BlackBear BBQ had a steady crowd of people streaming in throughout the day.

Location: Unit 48 93-97 Newton Rd, Wetherill Park 2164

What we ordered:

  • 2x Hungry Bear Box ($29 each)
  • 1x Full rack of pork ribs ($70)
  • 1x Mac n cheese ($6)

James – 4 out of 5: If you’re a fan of BBQ, you’ll love BlackBear – better enjoyed when shared with a group of family or mates.

Knowing we were on for a brunchtime feed meant I could skip brekkie, and with a completely empty stomach (which probably encouraged the over-ordering 😅) I was very keen to try the well-known BlackBear BBQ. My favourite of the lot would have to be the pork ribs – and while I definitely underestimated the size of them thanks to Hurricanes being my comparison (woops) – the ribs fell right off the bone and were full of flavour. A generous mix of pork fat and smoky bbq sauce made them perfectly indulgent like ribs should be, as you dig in with your hands with reckless abandon.

Onto the brisket which was room temp by the time we received it, but still soft, tender and complemented well by the tangy BBQ sauce that came with it. While the pork belly was enjoyable, the ribs were fatty enough to satisfy any cravings so the belly was not needed for this meal. I would highly recommend both the brisket and ribs if visiting Blackbear as they’re the pinnacles of smoked meats and BBQ.

Lastly, the sides while generous (pickles + slaw + Mac n Cheese), were nothing to rave about but were good for cutting the fatty flavours and letting the tastebuds take a break from just meat. The Mac n Cheese could have been more cheesy and was a tad dry – so I’ll be trying their other side options (like fries) on next visit.

Melissa – 4 out of 5: Well worth the trip out, salty rich flavours that will satisfy all your smoked BBQ cravings.

I have been craving brisket for a long time and Black Bear BBQ ticked all the boxes – perhaps a little too well. The brisket was soft and fatty (smoked for 15hours!), perfectly smoked and went well with the sharp pickle and coleslaw salad. The pork ribs were also super soft, melt in your mouth, however the fat to meat ratio soon overwhelmed me. I’d recommend 1-2 ribs per person (we ordered a full rack between four). All the meat was beautifully cooked, and the housemade BBQ sauce delicious and with a hint of heat.
Overall, good feed if you’re craving some well smoked meats. I would definitely be interested in coming back and sampling some of their burgers and perhaps the chicken and wings. I’d recommend having some takeaway to have later for dinner as well, as the meats heat up well. I was craving some bread or rice to soak up the rich fattiness all meal.

Overall an enjoyable, shared feast of quality smoked meats and BBQ which will keep us coming back! Grab some friends or family and take a roadtrip out to one of Blackbear’s locations and you’ll be sure to have a good time.
