Guzman Y Gomez, Auburn

If you’re Aussie, chances are you’ve already had Guz! If not, then Guzman Y Gomez is a fast food restaurant chain serving Mexican: burritos, fries, nachos, tacos & more. Certainly fast when it comes to service, Guz is a good alternative to your Maccas or KFC since you’re at least getting some decently healthy ingredients and it’s mostly made to order!

Burrito bowl with barramundi + guac

James: I’m a big fan of their burrito bowls and you can’t go wrong with Guz since across stores they’re fairly consistent.

Considering affordable Mexican food isn’t that readily available in Sydney, Guz has become a go-to for me as they’re located almost everywhere now, and also near the office. A great lunch choice, the burrito bowl offers a variety of choice in meat, which I usually opt for chicken, as well as customisations like additional toppings or sauces. This time I went for the barramundi (fish) to try it out and was glad I did and really enjoyed changing it up from my usual order.

The fish was cooked well and was flavourful and props to Auburn Guz for filling up my bowl and giving me plenty of fish (I’m looking at you stingier franchises). Expect the usuals of a burrito bowl: rice, black beans, house salsa & corn chips and you can get toppings and choices of spice/sauce which I like to go mild with guac, and onions. All in all you can’t go wrong with the burrito bowl, the customisation definitely helps you pick what you want so you can make the most of it.

We also got fries on the side with their chipotle mayo sauce which I was hooked on. The sauce was soooo good, a bit of kick as expected and great texture for dipping chips in. Would recommend try their fries (carb overload) and getting the chipotle mayo sauce.
