The Basak, Strathfield

An unassuming shop front on the Boulevard in Strathfield hides one of my favourite long-standing Korean snack food stores. I’ve been coming here for years to eat their delicious kimbap rolls, deep-fried veggies and spicy, cheesy rice cakes. There are small seats available inside, but takeaway is also an option.

Address: 10A The Boulevarde, Strathfield NSW 2135
Cream cheese/Pork cutlet kimbap: $8 each
Spicy rice cakes: ~$8 (varying sizes), extra $1 for a slice of cheese

Melissa: 7/10, never a bad meal from this snack joint

My personal favourite, and something unique to Basak (at least I haven’t seen it elsewhere), is their cream cheese kimbap. An unexpectedly delicious flavour pairing, the dense cream cheese is offset perfectly by the acidity of the pickled yellow radish. We also ordered the pork cutlet kimpbap and a side of spicy rice cakes (with added cheese). The rice cakes and were the perfect level of spiciness for me (I am notoriously bad with spice), with the sweetness and cheese offsetting the heat of the sauce.

While the menu itself is small, there’s definitely a large range of kimbap to choose from. Highly recommended if you are passing by Strathfield and craving some good, homemade Korean kimbap or spicy rice cakes. They’re located right by the station, so another option if you are passing by Strathfield on the train is to jump off and grab some takeaway on your way home!
