Holy Heffa Burger Truck

If you haven’t made a trip to the Western suburbs of Sydney then you’re missing out – and no, Newtown does not count. As products of the West ourselves, we welcome the trend of food trucks and are always excited to hear about opportunities to grab high quality burgers without having to head to the city. Especially in this colder weather, a car and a group of mates is all you need for an enjoyable and relaxing night out. Holy Heffa boasts a bonfire, pumping music and wide crates and palettes on which to feast the night away. Suggestions to bring: hand wipes and your own water.

Eamon – 4/5

The truffle obsession continues with this flavour-packed behemoth which definitely delivered on the flavour. Surprisingly, a burger featuring the pungent fungus was not the only thing I could taste. The amalgam of strong ingredients made for a battle of epic proportions; the battleground being my mouth. We’ve got mushrooms, cheese, onions, BACON, truffle mayo, rocket, baby spinach and them BUNS, all competing to be top dog. The buns were exceptional buns, bringing a different taste to the mix while capably housing the rest of the ingredients. And don’t forget those patties, cooked medium and remaining soft and juicy. I doubled up on the patty to back up the few strong comments I had for Mister Gee’s just weeks previous and in all honesty, this burger is, most assuredly, better without. The second meat patty to took a bit away from the rumble that followed every bite. The mixed mouthfuls let down this burger. For all the ingredients that were in it, it felt as if there was just never enough of any of them. It was roulette with every bite. Is that some bacon? A hint of mushroom? What about those onions? The only guarantee was an absolute slathering of truffle mayo which, although not a bad thing, can be dull when there are plenty of other things to taste. Seriously enjoyed this one, would most definitely recommend this specialty.

James – Burger: 4/5

Holy Heffa, holy moly! An impressive burger to say the least that juggles a good mix of flavours while keeping traditional burger foundations. Initial bites were an experience, combining the sweetness of their truffle mayo sauce and caramalised onions backed by a well cooked beef patty, sauteed mushrooms and mixed lettuce. The bun was a standout, fluffy and lightly toasted with crisp edges that stood firm in integrity while being eaten. A solid feed for a very affordable price point, there’s not much more you can ask for from a food truck.

Reason why it was only a 4 out of 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ekqu_Ku7nuY

I hate to be the guy complaining about having too much sauce; I know, it’s madness. However this burger had beyond generous sauce servings, at times overpowering the burger and its ingredients and leaving an oily aftermath on the hands.

The Truffle Trip was definitely an excellent all round burger. Bacon included? Check. Enough oozing sauce? Check. Well toasted brioche bun? Check. This burger would have ranked higher if the meat quality was a bit better and there was a more even distribution of mushroom, caramelised onion and bacon. My main gripe was with the meat. I’m a fan of meat that’s super tender and pink on the inside and crunchy and salty on the outside. Exactly like how they do it at Mister Gee’s. This patty was well cooked, a tad bit more well done that I would have preferred and a bit on the thicker side. I didn’t find any hint of mushroom in my burger and bacon was only discovered in the remaining bites. Other than the balance of ingredients promised to be in the burger and the meat quality, the burger was excellent. The sauce was plentiful and oozed throughout the burger,  tying it all together into a messy but delightful truffle trip.

Sides – Truffle fries: $8, Regular fries: $3

Eamon – Truffle Fries: 3.5/5, Regular Fries: 4/5

Truffles featured heavily in this meal and unfortunately for the fries, I got my fix from the burger. The addition of shaved parmesan to top off the fries were a nice touch but the weather did not allow the cheese to melt which I imagine was the desired effect. Their regular fries of lightly herbed, generously salted shoestrings seem to be standard for food trucks these days. Not much else to say here. Adding on fries as a side to the burger as opposed to ordering them separately, is a welcome option since no one likes sharing fries. There is always the one guy that eats more than their fair share (typically me).

James – Truffle Fries: 2.5/5, Regular Fries: 4/5

I’m a regular fry kind of guy, as seen for a second time in a row. The regular fries are far superior – they were crunchy, well seasoned shoestring fries. You cannot go wrong with these on the side. Great as a side to the burger ($3) providing a very affordable and welcome addition. Holy Heffa also gets brownie points for the combo. Bring back the combo meals! The truffle fries on the other hand would not have been missed, considering the sauce on it was the same from the burger; again it’s too much sauce. I could have taken regular fries and dipped them in the sauce latching onto the edges of my burger and in the foil.

Melissa – Truffle Fries: 3.5/5, Regular Fries: 4/5

The truffle fries at this establishment was also doused in parmesan cheese which, combined with truffle mayo and a giant truffle mayo oozing burger, may be too overwhelming. This is the reason why it’s not a higher mark. If these fries were eaten individually as a one-off snack then it would sit much easier in the stomach. The fries were the regular thin fries we could see at McDonalds. Points for being so affordable – we purchased it as a $3 add on to a burger and it was a considerable amount, especially for one person.

Drinks – Ferroro Rocher Shake: $6

Eamon – 4.5/5

The name describes this one perfectly; a milkshake that tastes like a Ferrero Rocher. And for delivering on that, it gets a 4.5/5. It was not immensely sweet and a bit frothy at times. One of the chocolate treats were buried at the bottom of the drink which was a pleasant surprise. Definitely really easy to drink and get stuck into since it’s not too heavy as well. I would say I polished off most of the two shakes that we ordered and did not regret an ounce of it.

James – 4/5

Ask yourself this, do you like Ferrero Rochers? If yes, proceed to purchase this shake and enjoy every mouthful. It tastes like a Ferrero Rocher slam – like a Tim Tam slam but with a Ferrero Rocher instead and includes small nuggets of the chocolate itself swimming amongst the drink. A tad too sweet for me personally but I still recommend if it’s on the menu.

Melissa – 4.5/5

I’m a fan of Ferrero Rocher, so I loved this shake. It comes very close to being the ideal liquid companion to the burger. The taste was excellent, well balanced, not too sugary and just enough cream. I would probably order this every time it was available. And I will probably try to recreate it at home. Highly recommend.

Overall

There was no need to sit and ponder our scores for Holy Heffa. We would all go back again – it was affordable, delicious and an overall great atmosphere. When we munched into the burgers there was silence for a couple of minutes as we savoured the creamy mayo and truffle burger. Bring some friends, bring some marshmallows to toast (maybe) and bring some heat packs and come down to Edensor Park for a delicious feed that’s guaranteed to generate some excitement for your taste buds.
