Chok Chok Burgers, Fairfield

Chok Chok Burgers is one of Fairfield’s newest additions serving up Korean inspired burgers, sides and fried chicken wings, giving KFC (located opposite) a run for its money. It’s great seeing local businesses bring something unique to the burger/takeaway game that’s different to the franchises we all already know about so we were keen to head out and try Chok Chok.

James: 3.5 out of 5 – Enjoyable burgers and sides at reasonable prices but needed more sauce to take it to the next level.

Bulgogi
Cheeseburger

We ordered the Bulgogi and Cheeseburger from the beef menu and both were very solid, enjoyable burgers. Both featured fluffy brioche buns with a smashed beef patty that was seasoned well but I found to be a bit grainy and even slightly overcooked. The Bulgogi had lettuce, pickles, onion and cheese which all combined well with a housemade sweet soy bulgogi sauce that differentiated it from the Cheeseburger. The bulgogi sauce was great, adding a sweet and salty flavour to the burger but there needed to be much more sauce to really set it apart.

The Cheeseburger was also very solid, a much enhanced version of your typical Maccas cheeseburger with pickles, caramelised onions, ketchup and mustard. The caramelised onions were a nice touch adding some nice sweetness and fortunately there was plenty of sauce in this one to really bring out the cheeseburger taste. While I preferred the Bulgogi burger, both were solid options that I’d recommend trying.

For sides, we got the Chok Chok Wings and Fries. The wings were great, juicy and well battered not too far off from a wicked wing. There’s a choice of sauces to go with the wings and we went for the Yangyeom sauce, a sweet, spicy and tangy sticky sauce that was delicious and added great flavour to the wings. The sauce definitely could have had more kick in it and once again I was hoping for more sauce on the wings to really take it to the next level. The fries were great, well seasoned shoestring fries with chicken salt that you can’t go wrong with.

Chok Chok Wings
Fries

Overall I had a good time at Chok Chok with very solid burgers and sides. With more sauce across the burgers and wings this could have elevated my rating but there’s definitely lots of potential here taking from korean inspired flavours to ramp up and create really unique, great tasting burgers. I’d gladly recommend giving Chok Chok a try if you’re in the Fairfield area.
